Barthod Chambolle Musigny 2008
The Domaine Barthod-Noellat was founded in the late 1920's and is a
fusion of the work of two families: Noellat & Barthod. Gaston
Barthod ran the Domaine from the 1950's-80's and has since passed it on
to his daughter Ghislaine. Ghislaine follows traditional methods of
vinification and carefully ages her wines. The grapes are partially
destemmed before going into the fermentation vats where only natural
yeasts are used. After fermentation, the wines are racked into small
barrels (about 20% to 25% of which are new) and aged for about 20
months. These wines are particularly ageworthy.
Delicate and
reserved, yet exceptionally powerful, with a floral and earthy nose
leading into bright high toned fruit on the palate backed by slightly
rustic tannins and uplifting acidity. 2008's are still a bit tight and
can benefit from decanting to help the wine open up.
