Infantado Vintage Port 2004

Unlike the major internationally owned port houses, Infantado is made exclusively from their own vineyards and is bottled at the estate -- meaning that every cuvée they produce is from Class A vineyards. Because their high-quality grapes enjoy long ripening on the vines, Infantado’s wines have more natural alcohol and less sugar than other ports. The hand-picked grapes ferment long and slowly in lagares (2-foot high stone tanks) and are still foot treaded. (Less than 2% of Port is still made by this century old, labor-intensive method.) The wine is bottled unfined and unfiltered. Rather than emphasizing alcohol, extraction, or tannins, this quinta, above all, prizes balance, and elegance.

Bright dark ruby. Cassis, bitter cherry, licorice and coffee on the nose. Juicy, primary and tightly wound, with youthfully penetrating flavors of kirsch and licorice.
